Abstract

The verbal sentence is one of the basic components of the Arabic language, and is characterized by its structure, which usually consists of a verb, a subject, and an object. From the perspective of generative and transformational grammar, the sentence is divided into a surface structure, which represents the apparent form of the sentence, and a deep structure, which reflects the relationships and meanings inherent in it. This study seeks to provide an analysis of the surface structure and the deep structure in the verbal sentence, by reviewing examples of them in the Arabic language, and explaining how to transform between the two structures, while highlighting the semantic and grammatical effect of each.
