The concept of the poetry column in the Abbasid era between theory and application
Abstract
This study aims to define and explain the principles and rules upon which the makers of the theory of the column of Arabic poetry relied. It is the theory that the writers and critics of the fourth century AH considered to be the decisive factor in evaluating the quality of poetry or not, the competence of its writer, and his familiarity with poetry and its characteristics. Therefore, I chose the title The Concept of the Column of Poetry in the Abbasid Era. Between theory and application, I attempted to establish the roots of this theory, the reasons for its emergence, and the rules set by its proponents, such as Al-Marzouqi and Ibn Qutaybah, to determine the quality of poetry in it.
