Abstract

This field study was conducted on a sample of students in the Department of Media at the University of Derna, with the aim of revealing the relationship and mutual influence between their use of social media and the extent to which they embody the values of citizenship. The study concluded that the extensive use of these networks has both positive and negative effects. On the one hand, it can enhance political awareness and participation in public issues, while on the other hand, it can lead to isolation, exposure to misinformation, and a diminished sense of national belonging. The results emphasized the need to educate students about the rational use of these platforms to enhance the positive aspects of effective citizenship values and mitigate potential risks.
