Libyan Exports: Reality and Ambition An Analytical Study of Libyan Exports for Selected Years from the Period 2004 – 2022
Abstract
By analysing the statistics and data related to Libyan exports during the period 2004–2022, it became evident that Libyan exports suffer from chronic distortions that have persisted since the beginning of commercial oil production and export in the early 1960s. These include fluctuations in export revenues, a high concentration of exports in crude oil, and a geographical concentration of export markets in Favor of a very limited number of countries.
This situation has made the Libyan economy one of the most open to the global market and among the most sensitive and vulnerable to global economic fluctuations, especially those affecting the economies of Libya’s main trading partners. Additionally, the role of exports in accelerating economic growth and development remains very limited.
Therefore, this study seeks to propose a set of measures aimed at correcting structural imbalances in Libya’s production sectors, thereby reducing distortions in Libyan exports.
