Women assuming leadership positions in educational institutions: obstacles and solutions
Abstract
The research aims to shed light on the obstacles that prevent women from assuming leadership positions in educational institutions, and to suggest some solutions that contribute to overcoming these obstacles and encourage women to practice leadership roles and assume leadership positions in the institution in which they work. The research relied on the descriptive approach and the office method by describing the phenomenon and analyzing it through the written theoretical heritage and literature related to the research topic. The research results showed that the obstacles to women assuming leadership positions are the result of a complex overlap between a number of factors, represented by: cultural and social factors through inherited customs and traditions, and organizational factors related to the policy followed in the institution, followed by personal factors related to the woman herself and her view of herself and her self-confidence. Some solutions were suggested that may contribute to overcoming these obstacles, including: trying to change some components of the societal culture - reviewing institutional policies - encouragement and motivation - and programs to develop and train women in educational institutions.
