Khair al-Din Ilyas's approach to explaining al-Hariri's Maqamat in his book (The Essential Articles on al-Hariri's Maqamat)
Abstract
While Badi' al-Zaman al-Hamadhani was the creator of the Maqamat, al-Hariri (516 AH) was its master. Al-Hariri's Maqamat became famous throughout the world, and literary scholars and students devoted themselves to them, studying, teaching, annotating, commenting, and explaining them. Among the most famous explanations of the Maqamat are the explanation of al-Mutarrizi (610 AH), the explanation of Abu al-Abbas Ahmad ibn Abd al-Mu'min al-Qaysi al-Sharishi (619 AH), the explanation of Abu al-Baqa' Abdullah ibn Husayn al-Ukbari the grammarian (655 AH), the explanation of Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr ibn Abd al-Qadir al-Razi (666 AH), and the explanation of Khair al-Din ibn Taj al-Din Ilyas al-Madani (1127 AH), the last of which is entitled (The Essential Articles on al-Haririyya's Maqamat).
