Abstract

The philosophy of language is grounded in the study of human thought through the linguistic symbols that the mind forms and circulates. This study aims to clarify the fundamental relationship between philosophy and language, raising its central problem through the following questions: What is meant by the philosophy of language? What are its main fields of inquiry? And what are the points of intersection between the philosopher and the linguist in its study? The research seeks to achieve several objectives: to provide a definition of language that goes beyond the traditional linguistic perspective, to explore new concepts and theories about it, and to trace the parallel development of language and philosophy. To this end, it adopts both the historical and analytical approaches.

The study is divided into two main sections. The first addresses the concept and origins, examining in its first part the historical roots of philosophy and language, as well as the most important linguistic and terminological definitions of the philosophy of language. Its second part discusses its major trends: analytical, deconstructive, hermeneutic, communicative, and linguistic. The second section is concerned with the nature and structure of language. Its first part explores the structure and nature of language, while the second examines the relationship between language, thought, reality, meaning, and power.

The study concludes that the philosophy of language is a modern linguistic field that brings together the interests of both philosophers and linguists, seeking to provide solutions to linguistic problems that have challenged thinkers, both in the past and in the present.
