Abstract

Lipoic acid was used as a key component in the production of α,β- unsaturated carbonyl compounds which react with nucleophilic reagents such as (hydrazine hydrate, thiourea and urea) to produce several types of fused heterocyclic derivatives. For many chemical and physical measurements, such as: melting point, FT-IR spectroscopy, as well as 1H and 13C-NMR spectroscopy used to proven the formation of synthesized compounds. Biological activity against two types of bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus (Gram-positive) and Escherichia coli (Gram-negative), was also investigated. All tested compounds demonstrated significantly better antimicrobial activity than standard antibiotics.
