يشكل الوطن العربي، بموقعه الجغرافي المتميز وتنوعه البيئي والثقافي، جزءاً حيوياً من العالم. إلا أن هذه المنطقة تواجها العديدة من التحديات الناتجة عن التغيرات المناخية التي قد باتت تهدد أمنها واستقرارها. فلقد أصبح تغير المناخ حقيقة واقعة تؤثر على جميع أنحاء العالم، وتشير الدراسات إلى أن درجة الحرارة يتوقع أن ترتفع بمعدل أسرع بمرتين من المتوسط العالمي بسبب تغير المناخ. ويُعد الوطن العربي من أكثر المناطق عرضة لتداعياته السلبية، فباعتباره منطقة ذات مناخ جاف وشبه جاف في معظمه، فهو يواجه في الآونة الاخيرة تحديات كبيرة في التطرفات المناخية وما يعقبها من جفاف وفيضانات واعاصير يترتب عليه صعوبة إدارة الموارد المائية وتوفير الأمن الغذائي. وقد أصبحت موجات الجفاف أكثر تواتراً وشدةً، مما يُفاقم الصعوبات التي يواجهها القطاع الزراعي. وبحلول عام 2050، قد تُؤدي ندرة المياه المرتبطة بالمناخ إلى خسائر اقتصادية تُعادل 14% من الناتج المحلي الإجمالي للمنطقة. وقد ينخفض توافر المياه والإنتاجية الزراعية بنسبة 30% بحلول عام 2050(الأمم المتحدة، 2024، 4)
تهدف الدراسة إلى أبرز مظاهر تغير المناخ في الوطن العربي، وتحليل آثاره المحتملة على القطاعات الحيوية في كافة المجالات البيئة والزراعية والمياه والصحية والاقتصادية. وإلى استعراض الجهود المبذولة الإقليمية والدولية للتكيف مع هذه التغيرات والتخفيف من حدتها، مع اقتراح توصيات لتعزيز قدرة المنطقة على مواجهة هذا التحدي العالمي.
