Effect of Cutting Collection Dates on the Rooting of Stem Cuttings of Pomegranate (Punica granatum)

Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of collection dates for mature-wood stem cuttings on root and vegetative growth characteristics. The experiment involved three treatments representing three different cutting collection dates (first, second, and third dates). The study was laid out in a Randomized Complete Design (RCD) with three replicates; each experimental unit (treatment) consisted of 10 basal, mature-wood stem cuttings. The results obtained are summarized as follows:

First: Rooting percentage and root growth characteristics.

Compared to the first and second dates, the third date for taking cuttings was associated with the highest significant values ​​for rooting percentage (%), number of roots, average root length (cm), and fresh and dry root weights (g) during the study season.

Second: Vegetative growth characteristics.

The third date for taking cuttings recorded the best significant values ​​for vegetative growth length (cm) and fresh and dry vegetative growth weights (g) compared to the first and second dates.
