This study aimed to examine the role of tribal sheikhs in resolving social problems within the local community of Sirte, the types of issues they address, and the main obstacles and procedures involved. The study adopted a descriptive approach using a social survey method on a sample of 120 respondents, with data collected through interview forms. The findings revealed that the role of tribal sheikhs is primarily focused on social issues, particularly cases related to murder and blood money, followed by family disputes, inter-tribal conflicts, and neighborhood and land disputes. Blood-related cases were found to be the most complex, with customary and social methods being the most commonly used means of resolution. The study also identified financial, organizational, and security challenges. Chi-square test results showed statistically significant relationships between the sheikhs’ role and both age and years of experience, but not educational level. The study recommends strengthening cooperation with governmental institutions to enhance social peace.
