The transformations of emotional space in the poem "O Gazelle of the Ban Tree" by Al-Sharif Al-Rida

Abstract

This study seeks to explore the emotional space in the poem “O Gazelle of the Ban” by Al-Sharif Al-Radi, as an emotional and symbolic space that reflects the poet’s tragedy and his double alienation (political and emotional). The study relies on the descriptive analytical method, using the tools of semiotic and psychological approaches to trace the transformations of the place through six main axes: the symbolic place, the place of paradox, the evocation of the absent place, the sacred place, places of fleeting encounters, and the moving place. The study concluded that Al-Sharif Al-Radi succeeded brilliantly in stripping the physical geography of its restrictive power, transforming the Hijazi places into havens of memory, and affirming the triumph of emotion over the harshness of distances.
