The role of entrepreneurship in achieving sustainable development in technical and vocational education institutions (A field study on the Higher Institute of Science and Technology, Tarhuna)

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the role of entrepreneurship, through creativity, innovation, risk-taking, and initiative, in achieving sustainable development in technical and vocational education institutions. The study adopted a descriptive and analytical approach, and the data collection tool was a questionnaire. The study population consisted of 147 faculty members at the Higher Institute of Science and Technology in Tarhuna. The researcher used a simple random sample of 80 individuals. The study's most important findings included: a strong correlation between creativity, innovation, and sustainable development, with 92.1% of sustainable development changes attributable to creativity and innovation; a strong correlation between risk-taking and sustainable development, with 86.2% of sustainable development changes attributable to risk-taking; a strong correlation between initiative and sustainable development, with 83.8% of sustainable development changes attributable to initiative; and a strong correlation between entrepreneurship and sustainable development, with 43.3% of sustainable development changes attributable to entrepreneurship. The study results also showed significant differences between The average responses of the respondents for each of the study variables were calculated, and the averages for each variable can be ranked according to the consensus of agreement among respondents on its respective items. The most important recommendations were as follows:

Disseminating scientific culture in society to increase awareness of the importance of innovation and its role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals; designing flexible and adaptable action plans that include strategies to address future challenges; monitoring performance and adjusting strategies based on changes in the environment; strengthening the role of initiative in entrepreneurship to achieve sustainable development; encouraging the development of products and services; working to find clean and sustainable solutions; supporting community issues and contributing to solving local problems through supporting social responsibility programs; and building partnerships with governmental institutions and civil society.
